Christian Aid Ministries released an audio recording stating that men, women, and children in Haiti had been kidnapped by a gang and requesting prayer for the situation.

- The gang that kidnapped the missionaries is called the 400 Mawozo, known for targeting religious groups.
- In April, the gang kidnapped five priests and two nuns, leading Catholic universities and schools to close in protest, the outlet reported.
- The U.S. State Department said it is aware of the kidnapping reports but was unable to provide additional details for the time being, according to the outlet.
- The kidnappings of the 17 missionaries come after several months of hardship for Haiti. President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in an attack at his home on Jul. 7 that also left his wife hospitalized.
- The country also experienced a 7.2-magnitude earthquake and a tropical storm in mid-August, with the earthquake leaving approximately 1,200 residents dead.
